The World Turned Upside Down

The World Turned Upside Down project for the National Civil War Centre took a new approach to exploring the impact of the English Civil War by looking at the experiences of, and impact on, everyday people. Redman Design provided a full range of services including exhibition and graphic design, artworking, contract management and object mount making.

The use of graphics has been key to creating dramatic environments which support the main themes and related interpretation. In the ‘Chaos and Conflict’ themed gallery the graphics are designed to create a sense of unease and drama. illuminated ceiling panels, floor and wall graphics work with the audio exhibits to create an immersive visitor experience.

In the temporary exhibition space, the use of a framed graphic system, developed by us with the manufacturer, that allows for the cost effective replacement of large scale environmental graphics combined with concealed fixing locations for picture hanging. The first exhibition focuses on the subject of ‘Fake News’ and explores the use of propaganda throughout history.

Redman Design also undertook the design and manufacture of bespoke mounts to display objects from the collection and loans from national museums. Delicate armatures support the smallest objects.
